Pitfalls

Indonesia is full of people that will do anything to get a job – "anything" at that also means that you as the employer has to be extra careful checking people's credentials.
This is why the real test should be placed directly in the job interview. I work with a few simple rules when recruiting:

  • Use CVs to scan for people to interview
  • Do not assume the CV is correct once the person is at the interview
  • Test people to a level where less honest people are found at the interview

Job Types

We have 3 kinds of employees that we occasionally have to interview:

  • Programmers
  • 3D Graphic Artists
  • Web Designers

And depending on which type the procedures a slightly different.

Interview Contents

I have tried to create interview phases that should spot weaknesses of the applicant right away in order to filter the bad ones out right away (this is why an interview can be down to 10 minutes).
 
This includes a written test, a test on the computer and of course an interview.
 
The written test is a little different for programmers than other groups, since I have not found a reasonable test for programmers within the timeframe I give them a number of programming questions like a written exam instead.

Draw pair of scissors in 3D Studio max – they get a real life pair of scissors to look at 30 minutes Test if the applicant can use 3D Studio Max and if he/she pays attention to detail

Web Designers

During the job interview I also go through the company policies and point out that these are essential to follow in order to pass the trial period. In general the people in this country like rules a lot more than Western people.
